Our History

1932

A used hearse was put in the parking lot of the Croydon Fire Company, establishing the Bucks County Rescue Squad. Residents from Croydon were recruited as members and trained on basic first aid. Once the calls started coming in, the members realized that there was a need for another ambulance. The rest is history.

1956

The Bucks County Rescue squad purchased a building on Maryland Ave, where they spent many years. Once they exceeded the capacity of the space, they began to look for another location in a new building. The Rohn Haas Company donated land on Otter Street. In 1956, construction began and the dedication took place on November 12th.

In the 1980’s, the first Paramedic unit was purchased. The B.C.R.S. set the trend, placing the first paramedic unit in service in the county. This was the first step to having the best emergency ambulance service that anyone could provide, proudly serving the community.

1980s

It took two years for a tentative agreement to be made. On August 24th, 1995, architect Dan Pfeiffer dropped off the plans for the new headquarters. That afternoon, at 4:20 PM, an accidental fire destroyed the Rescue Squad building.

1932

The Bucks County Rescue Squad was founded in Croydon, PA by a group of men after a young man drowned in the Delaware River. There hadn’t been an easy way to get him to the hospital, so the idea of a Rescue Squad was put into a reality.

Early 1950s

In the early 1950s, a group of members lead by Ms. Reba Goebic noticed the need for a hospital in our area. They started the first fund drive to build a hospital which became known as the Lower Bucks County Hospital.

Early 1970s

In the early 1970’s, a subscription fund drive was enacted. The first Emergency Medical Technicians were trained and ready to respond.

1992

After many successful years at the Otter Street address, the growth became too much for the building. President Harry Crohe met with Mr. Dennis Kain C.E.O. of Lower Bucks Hospital in the summer of 1992 to discuss the posibility of relocating the squad on campus.

1997

On May 15, 1997, construction began for the new building, located on the campus of Lower Bucks Hospital. Previously, the squad had been operating out of rented trailers in the parking lot.

On January 19, 1998, the BCRS moved into the new headquarters with the help of a moving company. The new address was, and currently is, 143 King Street Bristol, PA, 19007.
